Laura Martignon was born in Colombia to Italian parents. She studied mathematics at the National University of Colombia and received her bachelor’s degree there. With a DAAD scholarship, she traveled to Tübingen, Germany, where she received her undergraduate degree in mathematics in 1975 and her doctorate in mathematics in 1978. She worked at Corbondale University, Illinois, and for nine years at the University of Brasilia. She was a founding member of the ABC Center (Adaptive Behavior and Cognition) headed by Gerd Gigerenzer within the Max Planck Society, first in Munich and later in Berlin. Since 2003 she has been a professor at the Faculty of Mathematics at the Ludwigsburg University of Education. Her academic work is mainly in mathematical modeling in the applied sciences and in the training of prospective mathematics teachers, focusing on didactic topics.
Joachim Engel earned a degree in mathematics from the University of Bonn and a doctorate in applied mathematics from the University of Southern California. He was also trained as a high school teacher. He has been a professor of mathematics and mathematics teaching since 2004, first at the University of Hanover and then at the Ludwigsburg University of Education. He is the author of two popular textbooks on applied mathematics. His research interests are in statistical education, mathematical modelling, nonparametric statistics, statistics and society, and data science education. He was elected President of the International Association for Statistical Education (2019-2021); from 2015-2018 he was coordinator of the strategic partnership ProCivicStat, funded by the Erasmus+ program of the EU.
Andreas Fest was a research associate at the Technical University of Berlin in the research group “Combinatorial Optimization and Graph Algorithms” with Prof. R. Möhring from 1999 to 2005. He was also a research associate at the Technical University of Berlin from 2006 to June in the research project “Visage – Visualization of Graph Algorithms” of the DFG Research Center Matheon with Prof. U. Kortenkamp and Dr. B. Lutz-Westphal in 2008 and a research associate at the Technical University of Berlin in the “Active Mathematics” project with Prof. A. Unterreiter. He is the director of the finance department of this institute.
Ulf Kieschke studied psychology at the Humboldt University in Berlin (1992-1998). He was a research associate at the University of Potsdam, Institute of Psychology, Department of Personality and Differential Psychology (1998-2004). He later earned his doctorate (Dr. phil. at the University of Potsdam (dissertation topic: “Work, personality and health. Contributions to a differential psychology of occupational stress”). From 2004 to 2008 he was an assistant professor for psychological diagnostics at the University of Potsdam. He was also an administrative professor for personnel and organizational psychology at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg (2008-2009). Since then he has been a professor of psychology at the Ludwigsburg University of Education. He is Dean of Faculty I (pedagogics, theology, psychology,..) of this university.
Johannes Cuno. After graduating from high school, he began studying Mathematics and Latin to become a high school teacher. It didn’t take long before he was so captivated by the beauty of Mathematics to abandon his plans to become a teacher and delve deeper into Mathematics. He obtained a PhD in Mathematics at the university of Graz in 2015. He then held postdoctoral positions in Graz (2015-2016), Ottawa (2016-2017), and at ENS Paris (2017-2018). Since 2018 he has worked as an academic advisor at the PH Ludwigsburg. In 2024 he became senior academic advisor. He offers specialized courses for students in teacher training programs.
Partner school: Wildermuth Gymnasium
The Wildermuth-Gymnasium is the partner school of the EDUS4EL project in Germany. This means that the first pilots in the classes of this school will take place in the first half of 2023.
The mathematics lessons in class 10 will be devoted to data-based critical thinking, among other things. In addition, the students are taught risk competence and an awareness of certain phenomena of collective action, such as the so-called “tragedy of commons”.
One profile of the school is in Computer Science, Mathematics and Physics. Since the 2019/20 school year, this school in Tübingen has been offering the profile subject IMP (Computer Science, Mathematics and Physics), which takes increasing digitization into account.
The focus of the IMP is data processing and IT, which will be of particular importance for the EDUS4EL.

Partner school: Rauner School
Since September 2015, the Raunerschule has been a two- to three-form entry community school in Kirchheim unter Teck with currently about 347 pupils taught by 32 teachers. The Raunerschule is a bound all-day school on four afternoons and is characterised by intensive cooperation with parents and an open-minded and motivated teaching staff.
We moved into our new school building in the 2018/2019 school year, which meets the special requirements of teaching and learning at a community school.
